Newport, TN — A car wreck in Newport caused a temporary power outage this afternoon that affected downtown and surrounding areas.
According to Cocke County Emergency Management, the outage started around 3:00 PM on Friday, May 29th. Power was restored for most customers by 3:45 PM.
Details about the wreck itself are still limited, but it appears the accident knocked out power lines or equipment in the area. There have been no reports of serious injuries at this time.
This is the second weather-related or accident-related disruption in the county in the last two days, following Thursday morning’s flash flooding.
