
NEWPORT, Tenn. — Emergency responders were called to a construction site at 335 West Broadway Street on Monday following an accident involving roof rafters being lifted into place by a crane.
According to witnesses at the scene, workers were installing roof rafters on a new building when multiple rafters shifted and fell, causing at least one worker to be knocked from the structure.
One worker was transported from the scene by ambulance with reported injuries. Witnesses told Newport Journal the worker appeared to have suffered a leg injury and possible head injury. However, officials have not yet released information regarding the extent of the injuries.
Police, fire personnel, and other emergency responders remained on scene Monday afternoon. Building officials and inspectors were also observed at the site as the investigation continued.
The cause of the accident has not been officially determined.
