HARTFORD, Tenn. – As Independence Day approaches, many families are searching for the perfect fireworks to celebrate the holiday. This year, Grassy Fork Fire Rescue is inviting the community to celebrate while supporting the volunteer firefighters who protect the Hartford area year-round.
The department’s annual fireworks fundraiser is now underway at Exit 447 off Interstate 40 in Hartford, marking the 16th consecutive year of the event.
What began as a small fireworks tent has grown into one of the department’s most important annual fundraisers.
According to Grassy Fork Fire Rescue, the community’s support over the years has allowed the department to expand significantly. Proceeds from previous fireworks sales helped fund the construction of Station 2 in Hartford and purchase the fire apparatus that now serves from that station.
“This is our 16th year conducting our fireworks fundraiser,” department representatives told Newport Journal. “We started out selling fireworks from a tent, and over the years the support from our community has allowed us to grow tremendously.”
As a volunteer fire department, Grassy Fork Fire Rescue depends on community support to help provide emergency services throughout the area.
Funds raised during the annual fundraiser help purchase lifesaving equipment, maintain fire trucks and emergency vehicles, provide firefighter training, and ensure the department is prepared to respond when residents call for help.
The fundraiser also serves another important purpose: promoting fireworks safety.
In addition to selling fireworks, department members use the event to educate both local residents and travelers along the busy Interstate 40 corridor about using fireworks responsibly.
“We truly appreciate the support we receive each year,” the department said. “Every purchase helps us continue serving the citizens of our area and those that pass through.”
The fireworks stand is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and offers a wide selection of fireworks. All proceeds benefit Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire Department.
The department also offers a 15% discount to military members and emergency service personnel with a valid ID.
Fireworks Safety Reminders
As families prepare for Fourth of July celebrations, Grassy Fork Fire Rescue encourages everyone to keep safety in mind:
- Use fireworks only outdoors in a clear area.
- Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby.
- Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
- Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Never immediately relight a “dud.” Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it with water.
- In the event of an emergency, call 911.
Community members traveling from Newport can reach the fundraiser by taking Interstate 40 East to Exit 447, turning right, and following the signs. Travelers from North Carolina can take Interstate 40 West to Exit 447, turn left at the exit, then right at the stop sign.
By choosing to purchase fireworks from Grassy Fork Fire Rescue, families are doing more than preparing for a holiday celebration—they’re investing in the volunteer firefighters who help protect the Hartford community every day of the year.
