NEWPORT, Tenn. — Students in Newport will soon have the chance to experience college in a fun and exciting way without ever leaving Cocke County.
Walters State Community College’s Kids College 2.0 – Dive-In Experience will be held July 6–9 at the Newport Center, located at 115 Mulberry Street, and is open to students entering 5th through 8th grade.
The four-day summer program is designed to give young people hands-on learning experiences while introducing them to exciting career fields.
Students will explore:
- Animal science through zoology, veterinary medicine, biology labs and dissections
- Medicine and health care, including CPR, first aid, suturing, blood typing, patient care and taking vital signs
- Robotics, engineering and coding through interactive building projects
- Art and creativity with nature-themed 3-D drawing, shading techniques and cartoon animation
Rather than traditional classroom lectures, Kids College focuses on interactive activities that encourage students to learn by doing while discovering careers they may never have considered.
The program runs Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Registration is $125 for the four-day experience.
