### NEWPORT, Tenn. — Heavy rainfall Saturday morning has led to multiple reports of flash flooding across Cocke County, with rising water covering roadways in several communities. Images shared online show significant flooding in Del Rio, where fast-rising water has crossed roadways. The Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Department also warned that roads in the Parrottsville area are beginning to flood, urging drivers to use caution and turn around instead of attempting to drive through high water. Additional reports from residents indicate flooding near Bridgeport Elementary, where water has spread into yards and across nearby roads. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways, and even shallow, fast-moving water can sweep away vehicles, and the road damage may be hidden under the surface of the water. This is still a developing story, and Newport Journal is working to confirm additional reports, and we’ll continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. If you also have photos, videos, or any other information, feel free to send them to Newport Journal.
